Step-1:  First you need to open the Run dialog box by pressing the Windows logo key + R Key together at the same time.

Step-2: Now in the Run dialog box type regedit and then press the OK button.

Step-3: After you click the Ok button the registry will open and here you have to browse the following path

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender

Step-4: Now the Window defender will open but if you don’t see the DWORD DisableAntiSpyware on the screen then, in that case, you need to right-click on an empty space, select the New option, and then click on DWORD (32-bit) Value. 

Step-5: Now name the key as DisableAntiSpyware and then double click on this key.

Step-6: Once you double click on it a new pop-up will open and here you have to set the value data from 0 to 1.

Step-7: After setting the value data click on the OK button.

Step-8: Finally Restart your computer to complete the process and the Windows Defender is disabled.

If you are looking to enable Windows Defender then follow the same steps and change the value data from 1 to 0 and then restart your computer to complete reverting the changes.

Disable Windows Defender using the Setting App

In case you are looking to disable Windows Defender temporarily on your computer then you can use the Setting app using the steps below.

Step-1: First click the Start button and then click the Setting button

Step-2: In the setting window, click on the Update &  Security option which is available at the bottom.

Step-3: Once you clicked on the Update & Security select Windows Defender option which is at the left side of the screen.

Step-4: Now turn off the toggle switch which is under the Real Time Protection option available on the right side.

Now the Windows Defender is disabled on your computer but it is the temporary solution.

Disable Windows Defender using Local Group Policy

If you are using Windows on your computer the Local Group Policy will help you to disable the Windows Defender for that you need to follow the steps below

Step-1: Open the Run dialog box by pressing the Windows logo key + R Key together at the same time.

Step-2: Now in the Run dialog box type gpedit.msc and then click on the Ok button.

Step-3: Once you click on the Ok button the Local Group Policy Editor will open on your desktop.

Step-4: Here you have to browse the following path

Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Defender

Step-5: Once the Window Defender folder is open then on the right side double click on the Turn off Windows Defender option.

Step-6: After that, a new pop-up will open and here click on the round button next to the option Enabled.

Step-7: Now click on the Apply button available at the bottom right corner and then click on the OK button to complete the process.

Once you complete the above steps, you will notice that the Windows Defender shield icon will continue to run in the system tray and will disable after some time. If you want to get rid of this shield icon then simply restart your computer and the icon will remove.
